Do-it-yourself central locking. central locking
It's nice to be able to unlock and lock doors with a key fob rather than with a key. A simple central lock is of limited value because it takes up little space in the car. The capability of the car is a big advantage that many older cars don't have.
Installing a central lock does not require significant costs. However, in order to mount it, you need to demonstrate dexterity in work (it should be noted that the circuit of such a device is quite simple). If you can devote a few hours of your time to the installation, it's worth the effort. Otherwise, in order not to lose your nerves, it is better in service workshops.
If you decide that connecting with your own hands is within your power, study the following recommendations.
Important parameters and functions of the central locking
The central lock, or central locking system of car locks, is an auxiliary device, one of the components of the comfort system. Its presence brings convenience, because by pressing one button on the remote control you can unlock all the car doors without a key.
What else is the central lock used for?
Currently, in addition to opening the doors, this system activates the opening and closing of the trunk, the fuel tank cap, and. In a car that is equipped with power windows, the central locking remote control can also be used.
The scheme of the central lock is quite simple. The system combines:
- input sensors (door limit switches and microswitches are used, which are located in the lock design);
- central lock control unit;
- actuators (also called activator or actuator).
The principle of operation of the central lock
The signals from the switch are sent to the control, which, in turn, redirects them to the central locking control unit. Then the signal passes to the door control units, where the control of the impact on the actuators of the door lock is formed. Based on the received signals, the door control units activate the activator (it is a 12 V DC electric motor, which is combined with a simple gearbox).
Before you get started
Before starting the installation of the system, you need to properly prepare:
- buy the mechanism itself;
- purchase the necessary tools.

8. Checking the performance of the central lock.
After you have connected the battery, check the operability of the mechanism - both its mechanical part and the electrical one. The stroke of the rods should be smooth and easy.
9. Restoration of the dashboard and door trim.
After making sure that everything works properly, install the dashboard and side door trim in their place.
On the video - how to install the central lock:
- Pull all the necessary wires through a special corrugated tube - this way you protect them from chafing.
- To most accurately install the central lock, the rod can be bent.
The presence of a central locking system is not only a convenience, but also a quick, safe way to open and close the car. Today, more and more vehicles are equipped with such devices from the factory. But if you don't have such a system, it's fairly easy and quick to install. As a rule, the place where the central locking system is located is the door or the center console. Have you already installed CC? We are ready to read about your experience.
If you want to remotely unlock and lock your car, then it's time to learn how to install a central lock with your own hands quickly and permanently. The installation of this unit allows you to control the door locks right on the way to the car. This function not only saves time, but also acts as a guarantee that you have accurately closed all the doors.
Installing the central lock is not particularly difficult if you do everything according to the instructions. Moreover, buying the appropriate set will not hit your wallet hard. In time, the process takes no more than 2-3 hours.
Features of the central lock
Before you start installing the central lock with your own hands, you need to understand a little about its capabilities. The second name of this device is the centralized locking system. It performs an auxiliary role and allows you to comfortably use the car.
One button on the remote control allows you to unlock the locks of all doors. Also, the device may have a number of additional functions. For example, after you install a central lock with advanced functionality, it will be possible to open and close the trunk, fuel tank cap and sunroof, if present.
Advice! If you have automatic windows, they can also be operated after the central locking is installed.
The scheme of the central lock consists of three main elements:
- input sensors,
- central locking control unit,
- activator.
The signal from the remote control is transmitted to the control unit. The received command is processed by the electronic filling, after which a mechanical action occurs in the form of opening the lock. But in order to get the desired effect, you need to install everything correctly.
The activator is responsible for the implementation of the mechanical action. It is a small electric motor running at 12V DC. It is combined with a gearbox.
Purchase process
The purchase process plays a significant role in the usability of the future gadget. Choosing the right central lock is a real art. Not surprisingly, before installing it, drivers scroll through hundreds of web pages in search of a device of the desired configuration.
To choose a good central lock and install it without any problems, you need to know some of the nuances. Firstly, you can buy both the original system and the Chinese counterpart. A copy will certainly cost a lot less, but the original will last much longer. Secondly, now on sale there are universal sets.
You can install a universal set on any car. In addition to the main details, it includes the following elements:
- set of wires
- controller,
- cables and fasteners.
Central locks can be of two types: mechanical and electronic. The mechanical device is activated by turning the key, the electronic device is activated by pressing a button on the control panel.
Important! Connecting the central lock to the alarm system allows you to increase security.
Installation Kit
There are a number of materials, without which it is impossible to install a central lock in principle. Moreover, the car must have an alarm. It is to its outputs that the lock control units will be connected. The standard kit includes the following items:
- Activators - by the number of doors.
- Two-core wires with a diameter of at least 0.75. The length depends on the set.
- Plastic clamps - at least 10 pieces. You can buy more if needed.
- Keyrings, straps, screws.
- Control block.
This is a standard kit that can be purchased at any online store. One of the four activators is equipped with four wires. It is installed on the driver's door. All wires are subsequently connected to the central locking control unit.
Warning! It often happens that the length of the wires included in the kit may not be enough. Therefore, it is better to take care of the alternative in advance if the car has a large body.
The kit usually comes with two key rings. It is from them that control is exercised. Also available may be a display that displays the status of the locks that you have installed. For greater convenience, the control button can be displayed on the instrument panel.
Set of tools
Start by choosing the right tools. Without them, a normal installation is impossible in principle. You will need:
- crosshead screwdriver,
- insulating tape,
- ticks,
- pliers,
- spanners,
- drill and drill,
- vise.
In the course of work, this list may expand. But under ideal circumstances, these tools are enough to install the central lock.
Installation process
Training
It all starts with the removal of the door panels. The upholstery is removed from the doors and the dust curtains are removed.
Important! Disconnect all battery terminals before starting work.
To dismantle the door panels, first unscrew the four screws located under the shelf. Next, the handle is removed. Only then can the upholstery be removed. We must not forget about the three latches that are located on the edge of the castle. There is also a plastic screw that needs to be removed.
Pay attention to the screws located in the upholstery under the steering wheel. They need to be unscrewed. After you are done with the upholstery, it is important to follow this algorithm of actions:
- Selecting a location for installation. Of particular importance at this stage is the location of the insides of the power windows. Sometimes, for a more reliable fastening, you have to order brackets separately or make them yourself. It is best to choose the lower left corner for mounting. The fact is that with this location, the glass will never touch the lock and interfere with its work.
- Installation of the activator. An electric motor will be needed for each door. Special holes are made for it. The activator is attached to the lock rod and fixed with clips, which should be included in the kit. Next, you need to install the clamps on the rods of the manual block of the lock. All work is carried out with each door separately.
- Connection of executive devices. At this stage, it is important to check the wiring. In some cases, the hole in the central locking rod is larger than required in order to properly install the system. In this situation, use a plastic sleeve.
- Wiring. After you install the central locking activators, there will be wires from each of them. They can be fixed with special clamps. You can use existing holes or drill new ones. Focus on convenience first.
In the process of laying wires, it is better to avoid the bottom of the door. The fact is that if you put the wires there, there is a big risk of a short circuit. Since moisture accumulates in these places.
The most problematic area for laying central locking cables is the gap between the body and the door. A rubber tube is used to avoid kinks and chafing.
Installation
After the preparation is completed, you can install the central lock. To do this, you need to do the following:
- Remove the dashboard. To do this, you need to pierce the points located near the screws.
- Find where the wires run under the dashboard and in the glove compartment. It is here that you need to install new cables from the central lock, securing them.
- Dismantle the old power window wires and install new ones. Make a connection. Don't forget the insulation inside the door. Fastening can be done with electrical tape.
- Push the new wires from one side under the dashboard and glove compartment.
- Install the lead tube. This can be done with a screwdriver. The main thing is not to damage it in the process.
- Connect wires. You need to install a fuse to the connector by connecting it to the power supply of the central lock.
- The wires of the central lock are connected in this way: the negative wire is connected to the car body, the positive wire is connected to the first fuse. This is best done from the battery side.
At the last stages, the operability of the central lock is checked. If the test was successful, you can consider that the installation of the system is completed. Pay special attention to the smoothness of the traction. It should be soft and even. If the opening is jerky, you need to check the connection and see if anything is interfering with the activator.
After the check is completed, the reassembly is carried out. Everything is set in place. Reassembly usually takes no more than twenty minutes.
Control button on the dashboard
To install the internal control button, you need to find the black, white and brown wires under the onboard panel. The button will be connected to them. After that, simply run the cables from the central locking of the driver's door to the device.
The control button does not have to be done on the panel. The choice of location depends solely on your preferences. For example, it can be installed between the seats, it also has the ability to connect the necessary wires.
Advice! Many drivers prefer to install an internal central locking button in the armrest.
Results
After you install the central lock, comfort and safety will increase significantly. The installation process does not take much time and everyone can do it. Blockers will allow you not only to open the car doors on the run, but also to protect children while driving. After all, to close and open the doors you need to press only one button.
It's not enough just to buy a new car. It is necessary to immediately make it safe and comfortable to use. It is not necessary to install thousands of options and add-ons. You can start with the simplest, for example, even a central lock without an alarm will make the operation of the car more comfortable. And to some extent it will complicate the task of hackers. And you can put an anti-theft agent a little later. If at the initial stage there is not enough money or time, it is quite possible to get by with this uncomplicated option. Moreover, its installation is quite transparent.
Preparation for self-installation of central locking
The complexity of the installation directly depends on the brand of car. But, in fact, cases when something needs to be filed and drilled for a long time are rare. Basically, these include long-lived cars, which are at least thirty years old. In most options, the car is already prepared for the installation of a central lock. It remains only to put the kit in place. Well, the second side of the question is the set itself. If you don’t want to dig for a long time, buy universal locks. Installation is simple and you will find plenty of information on them.
What's in the base kit?
We take the simplest universal kit. Management, in our case, will be carried out from a special key fob. Usually there are two. There is an option when the system will be triggered by turning the key in the driver's door lock. You can also display a special button in the car interior. This additional option is very nice if the doors need to be locked while driving. It is not always convenient to use the remote control.
So, we get a universal lock kit, which in most cases includes:
- Four motors. Will be attached to the door. One of them with four wires - on the driver's door;
- Control block. We will subsequently bring all the wires to it;
- A set of wires of the desired length. If you feel that they are not enough, buy additional ones right away;
- Keyrings, straps, screws, etc.

Necessary tools for the job
Now we assemble a tool that will come in handy in our work, if there are no holes for mounting motors in the doors, then prepare a drill with a drill. Still needed: screwdrivers, a screwdriver, a knife, corrugated tubes (wires are laid through them to avoid chafing and external factors affecting the wiring) and electrical tape. We will rewind all open sections of the wires with tape in order to avoid their contact with the metal parts of the body.
The last thing to do before proceeding with the installation is to remove the trim and dust curtains from all doors. Determine a place where you will mount the mechanism so that it does not interfere with the operation of the power windows. If necessary, you will have to make an additional bracket.
Installation of the central lock
All necessary preparations are made, and you can get to work. We fasten the engines to the doors, remember that we put the motor with four wires on the driver's door. We also install the control unit there.
After installation, we check the correctness of interaction with the lock rod responsible for opening and closing the door, and the smooth operation of the lock itself.
Important! Before you start working with wires, disconnect the battery to avoid dangerous situations!
Let's move on to wires. We pull them from each motor to the control unit. Think in advance how to drag the wire from the rear right door. You can use the space under the seats. We connect them accordingly with the circuit and perform a check. To do this, return the battery to its previous state. If any malfunctions are found, first of all check the correctness of the connections. The positive and negative outputs can be mixed up. When checking, it is better to be inside the car or not close the doors. As soon as you restore battery life, the locks should work automatically.
Installed and connected motor
If you still want to make a lock control button, prepare the missing details in advance. Additional wire and button. It can be embedded into the dashboard. Buy any button, for example, for a power window.
Mounting the central lock control button
We are looking for black, brown and white wires under the side panel and connect to them. Alternatively, you can stretch the wires and connect to the electric bundle from the central locking of the driver's door. And the rest of the connection is carried out according to the scheme.
Connection diagram of the central lock control button
It is absolutely not necessary to make this button on the panel. Again, it all depends on convenience. You can place it in the space between the front seats if you have the necessary electrics there. Alternatively, the button can be embedded in the armrests on the doors.
The trunk can also be connected to the central lock. Which, by the way, will also save you a lot of time and nerves. If you have a wiper on the rear window, then the necessary electrics are already stretched out, and it will not be difficult to connect. The main thing is not to forget that the central lock still cannot secure your car one hundred percent. Such options must be used in a complex way and, of course, an alarm system must be installed.
Self-installation of the central lock
Today you won’t surprise anyone with an anti-theft system - many modern cars, even old foreign cars, are equipped with signaling and central locking (CL). However, not all old cars are equipped with such a protection system, although, to be honest, it is not of great value. In this article we will talk about how the central lock is installed on its own and what is needed for this.

Installation Guide
If you decide to equip your car with a car central locking system, this may be one of the options that will allow you to increase its security in the absence of a driver. Moreover, having even hands, this is not so difficult to do. How should the installation be carried out and how to connect the reinforced central locking device to the machine? Before you install the system on a car with or without an alarm, you need to prepare for the implementation of work, including preparing an electrical circuit.
Tools and materials
Do-it-yourself installation of a central lock and connecting it to a car alarm begins with the preparation of the necessary tools, namely:
- a set of the central locking system, which includes the system itself, as well as the actuating element;
- wire, it is better to give preference to two-core and copper wiring;
- other hand tools.
First stage
Before connecting the alarm to the central lock, you need to disconnect the battery. After all, these works will interfere with the electrical circuit, so it cannot be allowed to close.
So, the connection diagram of the central lock is as follows:
- To install and connect the central lock, you must first dismantle the door cards, to do this, disconnect the corresponding fasteners and unscrew all the bolts. In this case, each car has its own individual nuances that need to be taken into account, but in general, at this stage, motorists usually have no problems.
- After that, you need to choose the place where you will install the central lock. To do this, pay attention to the operation of the power windows - of course, they should not interfere with the system. It is possible that in order for the installed lock not to interfere, it will be necessary to make an additional bracket. As practice shows, usually the lower left corner of the door is the most optimal place for installation.
- Further, connecting the alarm to the central lock includes the stage of installing the activator. Each solenoid is placed on a separate door; for installation, you will need to drill the appropriate holes and fix the devices with self-tapping screws.
- Then the solenoid must be fixed on the lock rod. From the kit, using clamps, it will be necessary to fix each solenoid. It should be borne in mind that the rods on both locks (or on four, depending on the system) must be combined. After that, from the activators, you need to install the fasteners on the rods of the manual block of the central lock, this stage is also carried out with each individual door of the car. When connecting the actuator components, it will be necessary to diagnose the wiring for voltage conductivity. In the event that the hole in the lock rod is large, it is necessary, additionally use a plastic sleeve - it will provide the necessary dimensions.
- Further, connecting the alarm to the central lock includes wiring. Four cables go from each solenoid - two to it, and two more to ground - they must be fixed with plastic clamps. But in general, this stage is individual for each individual car - for example, you can use existing holes or drill your own with a drill. It is not necessary to lay the wiring from the bottom of the door, since moisture collects here.
In addition, the wires from the solenoids must be carefully connected and routed from the gap between the car door and the body, as this moving part can damage the wiring. Use a rubberized tube for laying. P When laying wires in the door, make sure that they will not be broken when closing(the author of the video is SIMPLE THINGS).
Second phase
- The scheme of the central lock at this stage should be at hand. The control panel is dismantled; to simplify the wiring installation stage, it is better to dismantle it completely. You need to ensure that the cables are routed through the appropriate hole, also find a place where the wiring passes under the glove box and center console.
- Next, you need to remove the old wiring - it is removed from the windows, a new one is laid, after which the central locking compressor is connected to it. You also need to connect the cables from the solenoids - they fit into the door structure and are completely isolated. For a more secure fixation, it is better to fix the silt using electrical tape.
- When all these steps are completed, the cables must be laid on one side in the glove box, and on the other - under the control panel. Here you need to be patient, because in general this stage is quite complicated and painstaking. It is not always possible to do everything the first time.
- Next, the duct is installed. This element of the system can be placed in a rack, it must be fixed. But be careful, because it is undesirable to damage it.
- After these steps, the wiring is connected to the output. Then a safety component is connected to this output, which must be connected to the power supply of the system. This whole structure must be mounted under the center console.
- Then the wiring from the central lock is connected to the body. The negative output of the system should be connected to the vehicle body. As for the positive wire, it must be connected to the safety component and installed near the battery. Don't forget the button. The central locking button is placed in the passenger compartment, it is best to install it in the door trim. With the help of a button, the central lock itself will be regulated from inside the vehicle interior - its closing or opening.
- When all actions are completed, it is necessary to check the operability of the installed system. To do this, connect the battery and check how the device works - both its mechanical and electrical components. Remember that the stroke of the rods in the doors should be as soft and smooth as possible. If one of the rods does not work, use a multimeter to diagnose the voltage.
- At the very end, everything will need to be put in place. The center console with door upholstery is installed. Regarding the torpedo - in order to prevent a possible creak in the future, the place of contact of the torpedo with the body along the perimeter can be smeared with silicone.
For motorists, the comfort system is of particular importance. Isn't it convenient when all the doors on your car, the fuel tank cap, the tailgate are locked and unlocked at the touch of a button on the key? Such a mechanism is related to auxiliary systems and is called the central locking of the car.
The functions of the central lock can be controlled centrally and decentralized. What does this mean?
- Centralized - a single electronic control unit for all doors.
- Decentralized - in addition to a single control unit, there are more blocks: one for each door.
Consider the central locking device as a comfort system and the principle of its operation.
The control unit, input sensors and actuators that perform the executive function, all these are the nodes of the "central lock" mechanism.
The whole system is controlled remotely from the control panel. The remote control is a radio transmitter, which is located in the handle of the ignition key. From it, the signal is sent to the antenna of the central control unit. Remotely, the central locking functions work at a distance of up to 10 meters.
Input sensors in the lock mechanism are microswitches and door limit switches. To fix the current position in the design of the car door, microswitches are used. To transmit a signal to the control unit and fix its current position there, a limit switch is used.
The front doors of the car are equipped with a cam mechanism and microswitches that fix the position of the lock. Moreover, the surface of these cams has a special profile. The "Lock" signal generates one of the two microswitches, the other generates the "Unlock" signal.
Two more microswitches form a signal of the central locking device about the current state. When triggered, they will transmit "Unlocked" (Unlocked) or "Locked" (Locked).
The lock drive has a lever mechanism. To fix its position and determine the current position of the door, another microswitch works. If the door is opened, the switch contacts close. In this position, the vehicle's central locking mechanism cannot be activated.
From all switches, signals are sent to the electronic control unit. Which processes them and sends them to the central unit. The processed signal is then redirected to the control units for the front doors, to the actuators of the rear door locks, the fuel cap lock or the tailgate. In other words, the door control units receive a signal that activates the actuators for locking doors and other locks.
The actuator is the very actuator, the door lock. It is combined with a gearbox and is a DC motor. The gearbox, rotating the electric motor, gives the mechanism a reciprocating motion - this is how the lock cylinder works.
In addition to the electric drive, there are pneumatic designs of actuators. For example, well-known German factories and used pneumatics in their cars. Pneumatic actuators are almost non-existent these days.
Video about the central locking systems of the car and their principle of operation:
The central locking system functions regardless of the ignition state of the machine. Whether it is on or off - it does not matter, the mechanism will work.
By locking the front door with a key, you start the function of the microswitch responsible for blocking. This happens as follows: from the switch, a signal is sent to the unit that controls the door, then it goes to the central control unit, which controls all the door units, the electric motors of the rear door actuators, the tank lid and the trunk. All actuators are started and the car doors are blocked. To prevent the electric actuator from being triggered again, a microswitch signal is generated in the central locking device. You can unlock the door in the same way - by turning the key in the lock.
To lock the doors of your car at a distance (remotely), there is a button on the ignition key or there is a separate key fob with buttons. When pressed, a signal is sent to the receiving antenna in the central control unit. There, the “message” is processed and the command leaves the center for peripheral units (on the door, locking the fuel tank cap and trunk). Actuators, which actuate the button on the ignition key, ensure that all doors in the car are locked. As well as fixing the doors, the alarm is turned on remotely with the button. Additional comfort will be the remote control of the windows of the car. It will cost more, but it turns out 3 in one: door lock, connection of a security alarm and automatic lifting of the lowered windows.
It is worth noting that in the event of a traffic accident, all doors will automatically unlock. This is done by transmitting a signal from the passive safety control unit to the central control unit. And the command to actuate the actuators leaves the center, all the doors are opened.
